Dr. Mónica Berger González is a Guatemalan sociocultural anthropologist and medical anthropologist renowned for her work in intercultural health and indigenous knowledge systems. She leads the Unit of Medical Anthropology at the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala and serves as an associate researcher at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute. Her research focuses on transdisciplinary One Health approaches, integrating traditional Mesoamerican ethnomedicine with modern public health strategies.
As the founder and president of the Green Health Initiative, Dr. Berger González champions sustainable, plant-based health solutions rooted in indigenous practices. Her work emphasizes the importance of cultural humility and the co-creation of knowledge, aiming to bridge gaps between traditional healing and contemporary medicine. She has led over 25 projects addressing climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and health equity in low-resource settings. Her contributions have been recognized by institutions like the Aspen Institute, where she is a Fellow of the Central America Leadership Initiative.
Dr. Nadia Al-Sakkaf is a Yemeni researcher and policy expert whose work bridges cultural heritage, digital innovation, and community empowerment. With a Ph.D. in Politics and a background in media and information systems, she brings a unique perspective to global efforts in democratic transitions, gender equality, and sustainable development.
She has served as Yemen’s first woman Minister of Information and was Editor-in-Chief of the Yemen Times for nearly a decade. Dr. Al-Sakkaf has worked with organizations including UNDP, IDRC, and DCAF on governance reform, localization strategies, and impact assessment in fragile settings. She also founded Yemen 21 Century Forum, a civil society platform supporting youth, women, and media freedom.
Her contributions to media integrity, peacebuilding, and inclusive leadership have earned her numerous international awards. These include the Business for Peace Award (Oslo), the Free Media Pioneer Award (International Press Institute, Vienna), and the Gebran Tueni Award for courageous journalism (WAN-IFRA and Annahar Foundation). She was named one of the BBC’s 100 Women Who Changed the World and was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
